So many people start new businesses every year only to see them fail. They put a ton of work into the launch of their new endeavor. They print brochures, update their Link'd In profiles and set up websites. Very often the phone doesn't ring or it doesn't ring often enough. Some entreprenuers throw in the towel or start reducing their rates in a desperate attempt to compete.
We are a visual society and very often decisions are made upon looks and presentation alone. While I wholeheartedly believe that word of mouth referrals are the be all, end all of success. However, to win over a new client or new employer, you have to look the part in real life as well as on your website and promotional materials.
The image above demonstrates a fitness instructor. Same great smile in each image, but I'd be more inclined to hire my personal trainer based upon the professional image on the left as opposed to the candid, hanging out with friends image on the opposite side. This philosophy also applies to those in the job market looking to work for an established company. I can't tell you how many Link'd In profiles I've seen where no picture has been uploaded or it's one taken by a friend. If that is you, you are going get passed by.

Singer / songwriter Steve Rempis (upper left) came into the studio looking for images for the launch of his now popular songwriting podcast. He chose the Creative Professionals session as it offered environmental full length images as well as head shots. We needed to convey rock and roll cool as well as Nashville friendly. Marketing major Elise P. at the top right was in recently for images to showcase for her online presence to potential employers. She opted for the simpler professional head shot session to help her compete in today's job market.
Graphic designer Melissa R. needed to showcase a casual, yet professional image for her freelance business. Business owner Keith Johnson is a determined seasoned pro when it comes to his DJ Enterprise - Hire Power Entertainment and this shows in his head shot.
