Fighting hunger, feeding hope is the mantra of the Foodbank of Northwest Indiana. During the holidays we all get caught up in shopping for family, planning parties and more. It's one of the most fun aspects of the season. However, for a great many people, having food and shelter consumes them not only now, but all year around. So what can we do about it? We can do our small part by donating food and money and attending and promoting the many events put on in behalf of the NWI Foodbank.
One recent event took place at the "only true beer bar" in the region Beer Geeks Pub in Highland, Indiana. Veteran rock band Nomad Planets played music from their many albums. The room was jam packed to the point where it made it quite difficult to photograph. This is good because that meant the bins in the back were filling up with canned good to be sent off to the NWI pantry.
While the Northwest Indiana Foodbank Benefit concert is now over and we only have these images, I'm sure more events will be planned. In the meantime, here are some dates for upcoming food distribution if you or someone you know needs help:
- December 14th, Saturday from 9:30am - 12:30pm at Ivy Tech Community College, Valparaiso, IN. This event is sponsored by NIPSCO and they ask that only Porter county residents attend.
- December 16th, Monday at 3pm - Pantry on the Go at Deep River Church in Merrillville.
- December 23rd, Monday from 3pm - 5pm Pantry on the Go at Genesis Convention Center in Gary.
Please visit the Foodbank of Northwest Indiana's website for details on how to donate and a full schedule of events and news.
If you are a fan of the band and are enjoying the photographs here, I have created an online gallery at this link:
If you would like to purchase a print, ALL profits will be donated to the Northwest Indiana Foodbank. the gallery will be up until the December 31st, 2013. After that I will send a check to the food bank.
